On the 3rd, it was reported that Lee Seong-hun, the presidential secretary for land, infrastructure and transport at the Blue House, was appointed president of the Korea Land & Housing Corporation (LH). The LH chief post had been vacant for eight months since former President Lee Han-jun resigned in Oct. last year.
According to the government, President Lee Jae-myung approved the appointment of the secretary as the new LH president on the afternoon of the 2nd. The new president is scheduled to take office on the 3rd.
The new president passed the technical civil service exam in 1996. After entering public service, he served as director of road operations, director of urban and metropolitan transportation, director of real estate development policy, director of logistics policy, director of regional policy, and director of technology policy at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. In 2021, when President Lee was governor of Gyeonggi Province, he was seconded to serve as head of the Construction Bureau of Gyeonggi Province.
Since the launch of the current administration last year, as the presidential secretary for land, infrastructure and transport, he coordinated work between the Blue House and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) on land, infrastructure and transport issues and policies, including real estate.
With the new president taking office, attention is on whether LH's key pending issues, which had been stalled, can gain momentum. Early in the year, even the vice president who had been serving as acting president resigned, and LH was operated under a "double acting" system. As a result, there had been criticism that measures to expand the supply of dwellings and construction for semiconductor site development were being disrupted.
