Former Prime Minister Kim Min-seok visited the Democratic Party of Korea on the 1st for his first engagement after leaving office. Kim, a Democratic Party lawmaker representing Yeongdeungpo-eul in Seoul, is set to run for party leader at the convention in Aug.
Kim met party officials at party headquarters that day and exchanged greetings. He said, "I'm glad to meet again those with whom I shared ups and downs while fighting many elections."
When reporters asked about the timetable for running for party leader, Kim said, "I was relieved of the premiership today, so it wouldn't be right to talk about a run," but added, "I'm considering various things with a focus on the public and party members." He continued, "I'm talking with several lawmakers, and there are also people I'm consulting with on practical matters."
Kim then visited the National Assembly. When reporters asked his view on former Democratic Party leader Jung Chung-rae's bid for another term, Kim said, "Is there really a need to do the party leadership twice, just as he has done until now?"
