The motion to approve the appointment of Prime Minister nominee Han Seong-sook passed the National Assembly plenary session on the 30th.
The appointment motion vote was handled under the lead of the Democratic Party of Korea amid the People Power Party's absence. Of 167 lawmakers present, 166 voted in favor and 1 vote was invalid, so the motion passed. Following Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, the first prime minister under the Lee Jae-myung administration, the confirmation of the second prime minister was also pushed through solely by the ruling party.
The People Power Party opposed Han's appointment and did not take part in the plenary vote.
With this, Han will take office as the second prime minister of the Lee Jae-myung administration and the 50th prime minister, 23 days after the president nominated the candidate on the 7th. She is also the second female prime minister to take office in 20 years, after former Prime Minister Han Myeong-sook, who became the first female prime minister in 2006.
