Kang Yu-jung, the senior presidential spokesperson, said Lee Jae-myung approved the appointment of Han Seong-sook as prime minister on the 30th.
Han's appointment date is July 1.
Accordingly, Han will take office as the 50th prime minister and the second prime minister of the Lee Jae-myung administration, following Kim Min-seok. As a woman prime minister, she is the second after former Prime Minister Han Myeong-sook, who served from Apr. 2006 to Mar. 2007.
Earlier, the motion to appoint Han as prime minister passed the National Assembly with 166 votes in favor and one invalid out of 167 lawmakers present. The vote was handled under the lead of pro-ruling bloc parties such as the Democratic Party of Korea, the Rebuilding Korea Party, and The Progressive Party, with the People Power Party absent.
