On the 28th, according to political circles, the president shared an article on X the day before stating that the Yoon Suk-yeol administration had reviewed a semiconductor special zone for Gwangju and South Jeolla, and said, "This was already officially confirmed by the People Power Party government during the 2023 tenure of People Power Party President Yoon Suk-yeol."
The shared article said that in the 2023 call for "national advanced strategic industry specialized complexes" by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Gwangju and South Jeolla received a "top score" evaluation. The president also wrote that "with abundant industrial water supply networks including nearby Jangseong Lake and Damyang Lake, as well as solar and wind infrastructure in the Honam region, it is the optimal location to achieve RE100, an essential requirement for global big tech corporations."
The People Power Party criticized that the government is using large-scale semiconductor investment in the Honam region as material for the Democratic Party's convention in Aug. The president posted a total of six social media messages just the day before to explain the need for semiconductor investment in the Honam region.
