The Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL) Seoul Southern District Office said on the 26th it is conducting a search and seizure of the prime contractor's and subcontractor's offices in connection with a fatal fall at the Sinansan Line double-track railway construction site. The prime contractor is POSCO E&C, and the subcontractor is C&C Power.
About 20 labor inspectors from the ministry were deployed for the search and seizure. The ministry plans to secure officials' mobile phones and PC data to determine whether safety measures to prevent worker falls were sufficient.
Based on evidence secured through the search and seizure, the ministry will determine the cause of the accident and hold those responsible if there were violations of the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
A ministry official said, "We will jointly supervise safety management with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport at seven Sinansan Line double-track railway construction sites where fatal accidents have repeatedly concentrated," adding, "We will also conduct planned inspections of the corporations' headquarters and construction sites nationwide."
Earlier, on the 9th of this month, a subcontracted worker in his 30s fell about 15 meters and died while expanding an opening at the Sinansan Line section 3-2 double-track railway construction site in Geumcheon District, Seoul. From 2024 to this year, four people have died at Sinansan Line double-track railway construction sites alone.
