People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok held a press conference at the National Assembly on the 24th and called for a special counsel and a rerun election over the ballot shortage fiasco. Jang visited an emergency room after the supreme council meeting on the 18th and was hospitalized at the recommendation of medical staff. On this day, after being discharged six days later, his first words again called for a "rerun election."
Jang took it upon himself to hold the press conference that afternoon, saying, "The National Election Commission remains arrogant and irresponsible and does not even know what went wrong," and, "I have concluded that there is no other path than a special counsel and a rerun election."
Jang said, "Even now, many young people and citizens are guarding Olympic Park," and raised his voice, saying, "The Lee Jae-myung administration should not use the deviance of a few as a pretext to disparage and trample on citizens' voices."
Jang also made his stance clear on his own position. Jang said, "The party leader's position is for party members to decide. It is even less something for the party leader or a few lawmakers to decide," and added, "I will follow the solemn mandate of party members to stop the tyranny of the Lee Jae-myung government and to protect the country and the people."
Jang also voiced opposition to the single-point constitutional amendment for National Election Commission reform discussed by President Lee Jae-myung and the ruling camp. Jang said, "A special counsel comes first and a rerun election next," and asked, "Why do they bring up the amendment they tried and failed before the local elections while giving not even 1 answer to the special counsel and rerun election that a majority of the people want?"
Jang said, "If the words 'no second term' come out of President Lee Jae-myung's mouth, public consensus on the amendment would be significant," adding, "If they only parrot the amendment, the public will doubt their sincerity."
