President Lee Jae-myung will announce a "growth grand-shift strategy," including balanced regional development, on the 29th at Cheong Wa Dae in a public briefing format. At the briefing, major corporations are expected to unveil investment plans under the themes of artificial intelligence (AI), balanced regional development, and nurturing new industries. In particular, to discuss attracting investment to key regions such as Honam, Lee recently met with Chey Tae-won, chair of SK Group, and is said to meet soon with Samsung Electronics Chair Lee Jae-yong.
According to the political community on the 23rd, many heads of major conglomerates, including Samsung, SK, Hyundai Motor, and LG, are expected to attend the briefing. There, corporations will present investment plans centered on balanced development and are likely to request government support. This is because the Lee Jae-myung administration, entering its second year in power, is pushing core strategies for a national AI plan, balanced regional development, and fostering new industries. At a press conference on the first anniversary of the inauguration on the 8th, Lee also said, "Soon, we will present to the public a large-scale investment project that will achieve a 'grand shift in growth strategy.'"
To that end, Cheong Wa Dae is reviewing tailored support measures across all areas, including taxes and finance as well as power and infrastructure, to encourage corporate investment. The move is aimed at presenting an economic and industrial blueprint for the second year in office and at increasing the public's sense of economic progress.
For this, Lee is scheduled to meet the chair at Cheong Wa Dae this week. The timing of the meeting has not been finalized, but the 25th of this month is considered likely. The meeting is reportedly arranged to conduct a final check ahead of the briefing on Samsung's large-scale investment project and the government's support measures. In business circles, there is talk that Samsung may invest in the semiconductor industry in the Honam region, centered on Gwangju.
Earlier, on the 19th, after returning from a European tour, Lee is said to have met Chey. SK Group is reviewing investments in AI data centers and semiconductors, and related discussions are believed to have taken place.
