Rep. Lee Jong-bae of the People Power Party on the 22nd criticized, "North Korea is fortifying its barbed-wire fences and moving south, while the Lee Jae-myung administration is undermining its own defense capabilities."
In a Facebook post the same day, Lee said, "North Korea is reportedly installing barbed wire right up against the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) and rapidly proceeding with land-denuding work to lay mines," adding, "This violates the armistice agreement and is driving the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) into a state of military tension."
Lee also took issue with the Lee Jae-myung administration's response. Lee said, "The Lee Jae-myung administration is closing its eyes to the North's threats and instead has announced it will drastically shorten the length of the civilian control line, and remove defensive military obstacles such as anti-tank barriers and rockfall protections along roads, thereby undermining Korea's defense capabilities on its own."
Lee said, "The Lee Jae-myung administration should lodge a strong protest against North Korea's measures and respond through international coordination," adding, "Immediately dismiss Minister Ahn Gyu-baek and revoke the moves to shrink the civilian control line and remove military obstacles."
He added, "This measure, which undermines strict military vigilance against North Korea, insults the sacrifice of the countless fallen patriots who gave their lives in the June 25 war sparked by the North's surprise invasion."
