Jeon Eun-su of the Democratic Party of Korea said on the 18th that Asan in South Chungcheong Province and Cheonan were jointly selected for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's "AI specialized pilot city" public contest project, noting it is "a major turning point for a leap forward in Asan's Mirae Industries."
The AI specialized pilot city project is part of the government's "Korea artificial intelligence action plan," pursued to leap into the world's top three in AI. It is a leading "K-AI City" initiative that introduces AI into city operations and management to make citizens' daily lives more convenient and safer. Areas including Baebang-eup and Tangjeong-myeon in Asan and the Seobuk District in Cheonan are expected to be the main target sites.
Jeon viewed selection as an AI specialized pilot city as crucial for Asan to leap forward as a Mirae Industries-centered city, and, on the 12th after winning election, visited the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to meet with Minister Kim Yun-duk, among other steps, to request active attention and support so that Asan City could be finally selected for the public contest project.
Jeon said, "If advanced AI technology is applied to rapidly growing Asan, citywide operations—such as transportation, safety, disaster response, and handling of everyday civil complaints—will become more intelligent, and the level of city services that citizens feel will rise significantly."
She added, "This selection is an important opportunity for Asan to rise as the center of the K-AI City leading model," and said, "I will closely oversee the project implementation process so that it leads to fostering the AI industry, creating jobs, and expanding the foundation for future mobility."
