Minister Ahn Gyu-baek of the Ministry of National Defense said on the 17th, "Agencies concerned should actively cooperate so that the Gwangju military airport transfer project can proceed smoothly and swiftly."
The Minister said this at the first Gwangju military airport transfer site selection committee held on the afternoon of the same day at the main conference room of the Ministry of National Defense in Yongsan District, Seoul, saying, "We will carry out the site selection fairly and transparently."
According to the Ministry of National Defense, the selection committee was composed of 19 members, including Chairperson Minister Ahn, the governor of South Jeolla Province, the mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City, the head of Muan County, the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and private experts.
This committee, under Article 6 of the "Special Act on the Transfer of and Support for Military Airports," deliberates on ▲ criteria and procedures for selecting candidate sites for transfer ▲ selection of candidate sites and the transfer site ▲ support plans for areas around the transfer through the sale of the former site.
At its first meeting that day, the selection committee received a report on the progress and future plans of the Gwangju military airport transfer project and approved the "regulations on the operation of the Gwangju military airport transfer site selection committee and the selection working-level committee" and the "criteria and procedures for selecting candidate sites for the Gwangju military airport transfer."
