On the 16th, People Power Party floor leader Jeong Jeom-sik said, "Seoul home sale prices have surpassed 1 billion won for the first time ever, and the jeonse and monthly rent that young people must shoulder have risen to a ruthless level," criticizing it as "a real estate disaster that has unfolded just one year after the launch of the Lee Jae-myung administration."
That morning at the National Assembly, floor leader Jeong held a policy meeting of the floor leadership to discuss criticism of the Lee Jae-myung administration and floor issues. It was the first meeting since forming the floor leadership team.
Floor leader Jeong focused on the real estate issue. He said, "From the start of this year through May, Seoul apartment prices rose 3.81%, nearly double the increase over the same period last year," adding, "Last month, Seoul jeonse prices posted the biggest jump in 12 years and 7 months, and monthly rents recorded the highest increase since statistics began."
Jeong said, "The market situation is this serious, but the president's grasp of the situation looks like watching the 'emperor's new clothes,'" adding, "At his first-anniversary press briefing, the president even boasted that if he had not leaned on verbal interventions since January, prices would have skyrocketed, and he insisted that jeonse and monthly rents are not soaring."
He said, "The main cause of the triple surge in sales, jeonse, and monthly rent is a contraction in supply due to excessive regulations," adding, "The era of 1 billion won Seoul home prices that opened one year into the Lee Jae-myung administration is proof that the administration's one-year real estate policy is fundamentally wrong."
Meanwhile, the People Power Party defined the ballot shortage incident as the "June 3 suffrage infringement incident" and said it will file election petitions in six regions: Seoul, Busan, Incheon, Gwangju-South Jeolla, Ulsan, and Gyeonggi. Floor leader Jeong said, "We made this decision by putting the infringement of the people's suffrage above the party's political gains or losses," adding, "For a Korea that protects the fairness of a single ballot, what is urgent is not a special counsel to dismiss the indictment, but a special counsel for the National Election Commission."
After the floor policy meeting, chief floor spokesperson Choi Su-jin met with reporters and said, "We will file petitions by electoral district," adding, "Legal Affairs Committee Chair Gwak Gyu-taek will hold a press conference."
