The Democratic Party of Korea projected it could complete the formation of the leadership and committees for the latter half of the 22nd National Assembly in July. Negotiations have been delayed as the Democratic Party of Korea is eyeing the economy-related standing committees while the People Power Party is seeking The National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee.
Lee Ju-hee, the Democratic Party floor spokesperson, told reporters after a floor countermeasures meeting at the National Assembly on the morning of the 16th that the parties agreed to continue negotiations on forming the latter-half leadership and committees through the 18th, adding that as of now it looks like it will spill over into June.
She added that the People Power Party is demanding the Legislation and Judiciary Committee and key economy-related standing committees, but the consistent, principled position is that the Legislation and Judiciary Committee is not subject to negotiation, and that because bills were not properly handled in the standing committees during the previous half, the Democratic Party must also take responsibility for the key economy-related standing committees. As the ruling party, it should support various government policies, she said.
The Democratic Party will hold a full caucus workshop on the 3rd of next month. Lawmaker workshops usually run for one night and two days, but the Democratic Party decided to hold this one for a single day in light of the timing.
