The "K-On-device AI AI Semiconductor technology development" project is set to move forward in earnest. The project aims to develop 10 types of AI Semiconductors needed for advanced artificial intelligence (AI) products in four key sectors: automobiles; IoT and home appliances; machinery and robots; and defense. The government will inject 511.1 billion won, and the remaining project expense will be funded by demand corporations, bringing the total to 800.2 billion won.
On the 15th, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources said it formed a "semiconductor manufacturing support task force (TF)." The TF will work with developers and demand corporations from the expense of purchasing design asset (IP) needed for advanced semiconductor design to the foundry (contract semiconductor manufacturing) stage where semiconductors can be directly manufactured and tested.
That day, the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MOTI) will hold the "manufacturing transition (M.AX) alliance AI semiconductor first-half general meeting" to launch the TF. The general meeting, attended by about 150 stakeholders including demand corporations, fabless (semiconductor design corporations), foundries, the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association, and the Korea Planning&Evaluation Institute of Industrial Technology (KEIT), will include a signing ceremony for the semiconductor manufacturing support TF memorandum of understanding.
