Floor leader Jeong Jeom-sik of the People Power Party, immediately after taking office, signaled a tough vetting of prime minister nominee Han Seong-sook. While noting her previous record of clearing a confirmation hearing, Jeong said the situation has changed and ratcheted up the offensive.
On the morning of the 12th at the National Assembly, the floor leader held his first press briefing since taking office and said that President Lee Jae-myung "likened owners of multiple homes to demons and treated them like criminals, and in April even said that employees who make photocopies should not be owners of multiple homes," adding that "although nominee Han passed the Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS) Minister confirmation hearing last year, this time the circumstances have changed."
He added, "Nominee Han is not just an owner of multiple homes but a super multi-home owner who holds real estate worth 9.7 billion won." He also said, "If the strict standard that would be applied even to low-level public servants is not applied to the prime minister, discipline in public office will collapse and this administration's real estate policy will completely lose credibility."
In addition, the floor leader said, "We demand an apology and a change of stance from President Lee Jae-myung on this matter," and added, "The People Power Party will demand sharp scrutiny of Han Seong-sook's qualifications to be prime minister."
