Chairperson Cho Hyeon-uk of the committee for fact-finding on the ballot paper shortage said on the 10th, "Regardless of the progressive or conservative camps, we have gathered with a passion to safeguard only constitutional values from an objective and neutral position with respect to the infringement of suffrage," and added, "Through objective and accurate fact-finding, we will reveal the full picture of the ballot paper shortage and disclose the results transparently."
The fact-finding committee held its first meeting in the afternoon at the National Election Commission in Gwacheon. The fact-finding committee is an internal investigative body that the National Election Commission organized with outside figures to investigate the ballot paper shortage.
Cho, a former judge and the chairperson, said, "The ballot paper shortage cannot be excused as a mere administrative mistake or a failure of demand forecasting; it is a serious constitutional order crisis in which the people's suffrage was infringed," adding, "Given that this problem was caused by the election commission, it reveals a systemic failure of the entire election management system."
Cho continued, "To restore fairness in elections, it is an urgent time for innovative reform of the election management system," and said, "The committee will do its utmost and work hard, so please do not interpret our activities as favorable or unfavorable depending on political camps, but watch with support."
Cho, the chairperson, said the committee will uncover the facts of the ballot paper incident and hold those responsible strictly to account. Cho also said it will seek ways to radically improve the election management system, which has revealed systemic failures, to prevent any infringement of the fairness and credibility of elections.
