The People Power Party criticized President Lee Jae-myung for nominating Minister Han Seong-sook of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups as the new prime minister, saying it was an attempt to shift the narrative with a personnel shake-up by replacing the prime minister while putting off getting to the bottom of the "ballot paper shortage incident."
On the 7th, Choi Bo-yoon, senior spokesperson for the People Power Party, issued a commentary, saying, "We cannot help but express deep concern over whether now is truly the time to put a prime ministerial change at the forefront," and added, "Getting to the bottom of the 'ballot paper shortage incident' comes before nominating a prime minister."
Choi, the senior spokesperson, said, "Korea is currently gripped by unprecedented public outrage and suspicion over the 'ballot paper shortage incident.' It is a grave situation in which the precious rights of the sovereign people have been infringed upon due to administrative incompetence," and criticized, "At a time so serious that the sitting prime minister is calling for a full investigation, the government is trying to change the narrative with a personnel shake-up by replacing the prime minister, while pushing aside a thorough investigation and resolution of the incident. This is entirely out of step with the public's demands."
Choi added, "What the president must do now is not replace the prime minister to change the narrative, but thoroughly get to the bottom of the ballot paper shortage incident, apologize to the public, and restore trust in the collapsed election administration system."
Song Eon-seok, the People Power Party's floor leader, also told reporters that day, "As the ballot paper shortage incident became a major issue and public anger continued, isn't this an appointment of a female prime minister from a corporations background to turn the situation around?"
