Prime Minister Kim Min-seok said on his Facebook account that unexplained activity has been occurring repeatedly and announced he would stop using Facebook for the time being.
On the 6th, the prime minister wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) account, "I recently learned that multiple 'likes' were pressed on my Facebook without my knowledge, among other abnormal situations."
Earlier, the prime minister was mired in controversy after it belatedly became known that a 'like' was pressed on a post by pro-ruling-party YouTuber Kim Yong-man, uploaded on the 28th, that criticized Democratic Party of Korea leader Jung Chung-rae. The post said, "Remember that Jung Chung-rae, who cannot even properly protect the candidates he himself nominated, also will have 'no next time.'"
The 'like' was later removed, and it was reported that the reaction was not pressed by the prime minister.
The prime minister said, "We checked from multiple angles, but there are limits to identifying the cause, so I will suspend Facebook activity for the time being and communicate through other platforms (X, Instagram, etc.)."
With the Democratic Party of Korea convention expected to be held as early as late August or as late as early September, the political establishment sees a strong possibility that the prime minister will resign this month and make an official bid for the party leadership. Some expect a head-to-head matchup with leader Jung Chung-rae.
