The Seoul Metropolitan Election Commission on the 5th finalized the victory of People Power Party candidate Oh Se-hoon in the Seoul mayoral election. During the June 3 local elections, a shortage of ballots led protesting citizens to blockade the Jamsil 7-dong No. 2 polling station, delaying the completion of the count.
In the Seoul mayoral vote count, People Power Party candidate Oh Se-hoon received 2,575,819 votes (49.22%), while Democratic Party of Korea candidate Chong Won-o received 2,515,560 votes (48.07%). The gap between Oh, the winner, and Chong is 1.15 percentage points.
Earlier, Chong on the morning of the 4th conceded the election results, and Oh returned to the mayor's office. However, because the count at the Jamsil 7-dong No. 2 polling station was delayed, the Seoul election commission could not officially confirm and announce the victory.
Police on the morning of the day deployed about 1,000 officers to disperse the protesters blockading the polling station and retrieved the ballot boxes. The two transferred ballot boxes contained ballots cast by about 2,000 people.
