As the vote count for the June 3 local elections and by-elections entered the midpoint, a landslide by the Democratic Party of Korea is expected.
As of 12 a.m. on the 4th, among the 16 metropolitan mayors and governors, Democratic Party of Korea candidates are ahead in 14, except for North Gyeongsang and South Gyeongsang.
In the Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon capital region, the Democratic Party of Korea is leading by a wide margin across the board. In the Seoul mayoral race, Chong Won-o of the Democratic Party of Korea has 61.54%, while Oh Se-hoon of the People Power Party has 35.94%. The vote count rate is 28%. In the Gyeonggi governor race, Choo Mi-ae has 54.82%, and Yang Hyang-ja of the People Power Party has 39.66%. Although the count is underway, Choo's victory is seen as certain. In the Incheon mayoral race, Park Chan-dae of the Democratic Party of Korea also leads Yoo Jeong-bok of the People Power Party (37.17%) by a wide margin with 61.76%.
In the Chungcheong region as well, the Democratic Party of Korea is ahead across the board. In the Daejeon mayoral race, Heo Tae-jung of the Democratic Party of Korea has 61.66%, while Lee Jang-woo of the People Power Party has 36.08%. Heo's victory is seen as certain. In the North Chungcheong governor race, Shin Yong-han of the Democratic Party of Korea also leads Kim Young-hwan of the People Power Party (45.06%) with 54.93%.
In the South Chungcheong governor race as well, Park Soo-hyun of the Democratic Party of Korea has 56.82%, while Kim Tae-heum of the People Power Party has 43.17%, and in the Sejong mayoral race, Cho Sang-ho of the Democratic Party of Korea has 56.86%, while Choi Min-ho of the People Power Party has 39.9%.
In the North Jeolla governor race that drew attention, Lee Won-taek of the Democratic Party of Korea also led independent candidate Kim Kwan-young by a wide margin, 52.15% to 41.38%. As Lee's victory became certain, he even delivered his acceptance remarks. In the integrated special mayoral race for South Jeolla and Gwangju, Min Hyung-bae of the Democratic Party of Korea clinched victory early.
In Ulsan and Jeju as well, Democratic Party of Korea candidates Kim Sang-uk and Wi Seong-gon are seen as certain to win.
The only places where the People Power Party is ahead are the North Gyeongsang and South Gyeongsang governor races. In the North Gyeongsang governor race, Lee Cheol-woo is far ahead. In the South Gyeongsang governor race, Park Wan-su of the People Power Party has 52.57%, while Kim Kyeong-soo of the Democratic Party of Korea has 47.42%.
In Gangwon, Busan, and Daegu, Democratic Party of Korea candidates are ahead, but the margin is not large. In Gangwon, Woo Sang-ho of the Democratic Party of Korea has 51.85%, and Kim Jin-tae of the People Power Party has 48.14%. In the Daegu mayoral race, Kim Boo-kyum of the Democratic Party of Korea has 51.55%, and Choo Kyung-ho of the People Power Party has 47.4%. In the Busan mayoral race, Chun Jae-soo of the Democratic Party of Korea has 53.18%, and Park Heong-joon of the People Power Party has 45.3%.
In the elections for the 25 autonomous districts of Seoul as well, the Democratic Party of Korea is far ahead. As of 12 a.m. on the 4th, the Democratic Party of Korea is leading in 23 districts, except for Seocho and Dongjak.
