The victories of candidates Kim Nam-kuk, Kim Nam-joon, and Jeon Eun-su—who assisted President Lee Jae-myung at the Blue House and are running in the June 3 parliamentary by-elections—are seen as likely.
According to the National Election Commission on the 4th, as of 12:35 a.m. on the 4th, Kim Nam-joon of the Democratic Party is ahead with 76.98% in the Incheon Gyeyang B by-election, leading Sim Wang-seop of the People Power Party (17.96%). Incheon Gyeyang B is the president's previous constituency, and the Democratic Party strategically nominated Kim, a member of the so-called "Seongnam line" and the Blue House Spokesperson.
In Gyeonggi Ansan A, Kim Nam-kuk of the Democratic Party, who served as the Blue House secretary for digital communication, is leading with 55.89%. He is ahead of Kim Seok-hoon of the People Power Party (38.69%) by 17.2 percentage points (p). Kim, an alumnus of Chung-Ang University like the president, resigned as secretary for digital communication, served as a Spokesperson for the Democratic Party, and is now returning to the Assembly.
Jeon Eun-su, the Democratic Party candidate for Asan B in South Chungcheong who served as Blue House Spokesperson, also appears likely to win. So far, Jeon has 65.25% of the vote, 32.66 percentage points ahead of Kim Min-kyung of the People Power Party (32.59%). Asan B in South Chungcheong is the previous constituency of Presidential Chief of Staff Kang Hoon-sik.
If Kim Nam-kuk, Kim Nam-joon, and Jeon Eun-su enter the Assembly, they are expected to serve as a bridge in party–presidential relations. There is also an outlook that as they move to support legislation, President Lee's policy agenda will gain momentum.
