Jo Sang-ho, the Democratic Party of Korea candidate for Sejong mayor, is likely to win the June 3 local elections.
At 12:05 a.m. on the 4th, with 35.21% of the votes counted, candidate Jo led with 56.86%, ahead of People Power Party candidate Choi Min-ho at 39.90%.
After becoming the likely winner, candidate Jo said, "I believe this is the great decision of Sejong citizens to build a complete administrative capital in Sejong together with President Lee Jae-myung, who gets things done," adding, "We will also review and develop the good pledges of the rival candidates together for the development of Sejong."
Candidate Jo previously served as Sejong's vice mayor for economic affairs and is currently a member of the government's State Affairs Planning Committee.
