The Pyeongtaek B by-election for the National Assembly in Gyeonggi Province, held alongside the June 3 local elections, remained too close to call even after midnight on the 4th. Pyeongtaek B, along with Busan Buk-gu A, had been forecast as one of the fiercest battlegrounds in this by-election.
According to the National Election Commission, as of 12:18 a.m. that day, 41.96% of the ballots had been counted in Pyeongtaek B. The vote shares stood at 31.09% for Kim Yong-nam of the Democratic Party of Korea, 31.01% for Yoo Ui-dong of the People Power Party, and 30.12% for Cho Kuk of the Rebuilding Korea Party. The gap between Kim Yong-nam of the Democratic Party, currently in first place, and Yoo Ui-dong of the People Power Party in second is 31 votes.
Accordingly, it is increasingly likely that the winner of the Pyeongtaek B by-election in Gyeonggi Province will be decided only when the vote count is nearly complete.
