The Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL) Daejeon Regional Employment and Labor Office and the Daejeon Metropolitan Police Agency said on the 4th they are conducting raids and seizures at Hanwha Aerospace's Seoul headquarters and Daejeon business sites. An explosion occurred on the 1st in the washing room of Building 56 at Hanwha Aerospace's Daejeon business site, killing five people and leaving two seriously injured.
For the raids and seizures, 55 police officers from the Daejeon Metropolitan Police Agency and labor inspectors from the ministry were deployed. The ministry plans to secure materials on the cause of the explosion, including process procedures and drawings for the propellant washing work, and documents on the safety and health management system, and to examine whether safety measures were sufficient when working in the washing area and related locations.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL) Daejeon Regional Employment and Labor Office said it would determine the cause of the repeated explosions based on the evidence secured through the raids and seizures and hold those responsible to account if violations of the Occupational Safety and Health Act or the Serious Accidents Punishment Act are found.
Meanwhile, the ministry has formed a dedicated investigation team of about 20 people to determine the cause of the accident and is conducting the investigation.
