President Lee Jae-myung on the 3rd, the day of the June 3 nationwide local elections general vote, encouraged turnout, saying, "As Plato said, did you vote so as not to be ruled by the worst and most vile?"
That morning, the president wrote this on X (formerly Twitter).
Earlier, on the 31st, the president had also encouraged voting by quoting Plato.
Citing the ancient Greek philosopher Plato's words, "The price of political indifference is to be ruled by the worst and most vile," Lee said, "In a democratic republic, the silence of the sovereign and abstaining from voting give an opportunity to those who deceive the people, abuse power for private gain, and ruin the lives of me and my family."
He added, "Please find loyal and competent people who will use the power entrusted by the people only according to the people's will and only for the people, and give them a chance," stressing, "Depending on what mindset and attitude elected officials have and how they act, the world can become either hell or heaven."
