As of 8 a.m. on the 3rd, the nationwide voter turnout stood at 4.5% on election day for the 9th nationwide local elections held simultaneously and the National Assembly by-elections.
According to the National Election Commission, as of 8 a.m. that day, 2,017,995 out of a total of 44,649,908 eligible voters had cast their ballots. This is 0.7 percentage point higher than the turnout at the same time in the 8th local elections four years ago (3.8%).
By region, Gangwon was highest at 5.7%, followed by Daegu at 5.6%. North Gyeongsang 5.5%, South Gyeongsang 5.3%, North Chungcheong and South Chungcheong 5.1% each, and Ulsan 4.8% followed. In the capital region, Gyeonggi, Busan, and Jeju were each tallied at 4.4%. Incheon was 4.2% and Seoul 4.1%.
Gwangju had the lowest turnout at 2.9%. South Jeolla was 3.8%, North Jeolla 3.6%, and Sejong 3.5%.
Voting runs until 6 p.m. that day. Voters can cast ballots at polling stations with jurisdiction over their resident registration address.
Voters must bring a photo ID such as a resident registration card, passport, or driver's license when voting. For a mobile ID, open the application so the photo, name, and date of birth can be verified and present it.
