The National Election Commission will hold an emergency meeting over the ballot paper shortage that occurred on the June 3 local election voting day.
Heo Cheol-hoon, secretary general of the National Election Commission, said on the 3rd during a meeting with People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok, "We are trying to convene an emergency commission at 12 a.m. on the 4th."
As of 6:20 p.m. that day, voters were waiting or turning away due to a shortage of ballot papers at 12 polling stations in Songpa District, one in Gangnam District, and one in Gwangjin District in Seoul.
When the ballot paper shortage occurred, Secretary General Heo held a press conference to apologize to the public and said, "We deeply feel responsible and apologize for inconveniencing people who came to polling stations to exercise their precious sovereignty and for damaging public trust in fair election management."
