Song Eon-seog, co-chair of the election committee for the People Power Party, called on the National Election Commission to halt voting after ballots reportedly ran short in places including Songpa District in Seoul, preventing voters from casting ballots.
Holding an emergency press briefing at 9 p.m. on the 3rd, Co-chair Song said, "Pursuant to Article 196 of the Public Official Election Act, we formally request the National Election Commission to postpone the election."
Co-chair Song added, "Many people are saying it is no longer possible for this election to proceed normally," and "We clearly point out that it is also very difficult to proceed with the Seoul election as is."
He also said, "Even though there are citizens waiting to vote at the No. 2 polling station in Jamsil 7-dong, Seoul, I understand there was a situation in which officials tried to retrieve the ballot box, leading to a standoff with citizens and police," and argued, "This is a clear attempt to illegally retrieve a ballot box."
Regarding the election commission's apology, Co-chair Song said, "Although the commission issued an apology message, this is not a matter that can end with a simple apology, but a serious issue that significantly undermines the fairness of the election."
