Chong Won-o, the Democratic Party of Korea's candidate for Seoul mayor, urged voters to turn out ahead of the local elections on the 3rd, saying, "A reckoning awaits for Oh Se-hoon of the People Power Party for 10 years of incompetence, irresponsibility and complacency."
On the morning of the 2nd, Chong Won-o, the Democratic Party of Korea's candidate for Seoul mayor, held a news conference at the National Assembly with the party's district chief candidates in Seoul, saying, "I expect citizens will surely deliver a stern judgment on candidate Oh," and added, "(This election is) a judgment on 10 years of Oh's incompetence, irresponsibility and complacency."
He also criticized the Oh camp's call that day for answers on five allegations, including a trip to Cancun, saying, "Rehashing issues already answered numerous times to keep stoking suspicions is a textbook negative campaign." He added, "It is an attempt to overturn the race as the tide turns against them, but citizens already see right through it."
Chong also targeted Oh, saying, "On one hand, you call for a policy-focused campaign and request a TV debate, while on the other, media have already reported that you have systematically waged indiscriminate smears through black propaganda and running comment rooms," adding, "Such conduct will not escape judicial judgment."
Assessing the race, Chong said, "This election will be a neck-and-neck contest as predicted from the start," but added, "The public's demand to feel administrative efficacy through a mayor who gets things done is the people's will and the spirit of the times," and concluded, "It will be a close race, but we will ultimately win and secure new leadership."
