On June 2, a day before the June 3 local elections, Yoo Ui-dong, the People Power Party candidate for Pyeongtaek-eul, Gyeonggi, held an emergency press conference and appealed for support, saying, "As a conservative politician, the top priority is to stop the Lee Jae-myung administration's runaway."
At his Pyeongtaek campaign office in Gyeonggi that day, Yoo said at an emergency press conference, "Just this once, please rally your votes behind Yoo Ui-dong to stop the worst candidates in our country's political history."
Yoo said, "Grassroots public sentiment is already moving toward Yoo Ui-dong," and added, "If we unite, a more overwhelming victory is possible." With nine hours left until the end of official campaign activities, Yoo said, "If a single candidacy is difficult, please unify public sentiment at the ballot box."
In a follow-up Q&A, Yoo said, "I have not yet received an official proposal for unification," adding, "Rather than laying out conditions for unification now, focusing on who has a higher chance of winning fits the purpose of unification." He added, "I will do my best in the time remaining," and said, "I still think there is hope for unification."
Regarding Hwang Kyo-ahn urging him to clarify his position on alleged election fraud, he said, "I agree with the fact that the election commission's response was inadequate, from 'basket voting' and the illicit hiring of election commission staff to President Lee Jae-myung's disclosure of a ballot," adding, "However, people may differ on the definition of election fraud."
On the impeachment of former President Park Geun-hye, he said, "It inflicted a very deep wound on our conservative camp, and the painful period has held us back for quite a long time," adding, "However, now is the time to pour our energy into finding what common ground we have, rather than emphasizing internal differences."
