On the 2nd, a day before the June 3 local elections, independent candidate Han Dong-hoon for Busan Buk-gu Gap appealed for support, saying he would rebuild conservatism and stop Lee Jae-myung's runaway push to cancel indictments.
At 2 p.m. that day, Han began his campaign on Deokcheon Youth Street in Buk-gu, Busan. Han said, "Deokcheon Youth Street was the most bustling district in Busan just over a decade ago, but people have been leaving little by little," and added, "With a historic victory tomorrow, Buk-gu will become the center of Korea."
Han said, "Today, the president said at a Cabinet meeting that if prosecutors do wrong, indictments should also be canceled," adding, "It is an open declaration to cancel his own indictment."
He continued, "Depending on the outcome of this election, it will be decided whether a nation-wrecking and unconstitutional cancellation of indictments can be carried out," and added, "We will win here on the winds of public sentiment and stop it without fail."
In a subsequent Q&A, Han responded to remarks by People Power Party candidate Park Min-sik, who called him a turncoat, saying, "Think carefully about why Park Min-sik spat and left Buk-gu," and added, "I started my political career in Buk-gu and I will see the end of my political career in Buk-gu."
On the controversy over a supporter's alleged bogus address change, he said, "We received population statistics from the community service center and confirmed it was not true, but with even the Democratic Party and the People Power Party leadership piling on, citizens of Buk-gu will click their tongues." He added, "Candidate Ha Jung-woo entered politics a month ago, and it is regrettable to see this 1980s-style negative campaigning."
