Jung Chung-rae, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, again urged people to vote on the 2nd, a day before the June 3 local elections. Jung stressed that for the Lee Jae-myung administration to carry out its pledges, Democratic Party candidates must be elected as heads of local governments.
At an afternoon news conference at the National Assembly appealing to the public to vote, Jung said, "It counts as one vote only when you go to the polling place, and it counts as one vote only when you firmly stamp the ballot," and added, "Please once again confirm that the owners of the nation are the people, and that the sovereigns of the Republic of Korea are the people."
He went on, "There are still forces who, dreaming of the resurrection of Yoon Suk-yeol, the ringleader of insurrection, chant 'Yoon Again'; former President Park Geun-hye, who was impeached for state capture and went to prison, and her followers; former President Lee Myung-bak, the symbol of corruption who went to prison for corruption, and his followers. These three prison-bound figures and their followers are leveling baseless criticism at President Lee Jae-myung and trying to shake him."
Jung also said, "Tomorrow (the 3rd) is local election day, and it marks exactly one year since the Lee Jae-myung administration won the people's choice," adding, "In just one year, the Lee Jae-myung administration has produced many achievements. If it is doing well, we should cheer that it is doing well, and encourage it to keep doing well going forward so it will be motivated to work even harder."
He continued, "If you think the president is doing well, choose No. 1; if you look forward to the president's statecraft, choose No. 1; if you think we should give strength to the president, choose No. 1," adding, "If we vote, we win. We must vote to win. Voting is stronger than bullets."
