The Office of the Prime Minister said Prime Minister Kim Min-seok will visit the site of the explosion at the Hanwha Aerospace weapons manufacturing plant in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, that occurred on the 1st.
Kim is scheduled to visit the accident site at 5 p.m. that day to receive a briefing on the recovery efforts.
At about 10:59 a.m. that day, a 119 call reported an explosion in a laboratory at the Hanwha Aerospace Daejeon plant. The main blaze was contained at about 11:49 a.m., and all flames were extinguished at about 1:07 p.m. According to the fire authorities, five people were killed and two were injured in the accident.
Immediately after the incident, Kim ordered the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the National Fire Agency, the Korean National Police Agency, and Daejeon City to "mobilize all available equipment and personnel to do their utmost in firefighting and rescue to prevent any additional damage."
