The Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL) said on the 1st that it booked five people, including A, the head of the construction company for the Seosomun overpass collapse, on charges including violating the Serious Accidents Punishment Act and the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
According to the ministry, the list of those booked includes A, the head of a subcontractor, and the site manager. A is suspected of violating the Serious Accidents Punishment Act.
The construction company had been carrying out demolition work on the Seosomun overpass after receiving a construction order from the Seoul Metropolitan Government. As the ordering party, the Seoul Metropolitan Government is not subject to punishment under the Serious Accidents Punishment Act and was excluded from booking.
The accident occurred on the afternoon of the 26th of last month. During demolition work on the Seosomun overpass in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, part of the structure collapsed, killing three workers at the site and injuring three.
