People Power Party floor leader Song Eon-seog, two days before the June 3 local elections on the 1st, appealed for support, saying, "Shouldn't we press the control button at least once for the ruling camp that cannot contain its overflowing power and is intoxicated by the taste of power?"
At a news conference appealing to the public at the National Assembly on the morning of the 1st, the floor leader said, "The very act of fielding unprepared, incompetent candidates relying only on the president's coattails shows the arrogant bare face of the ruling party that looks down on the people," and stated accordingly.
The floor leader said, "We know well that you see the People Power Party as lacking in many ways. We feel sorry. We reflect," adding, "But shouldn't you at least protect the Republic of Korea that stands before the wind? Shouldn't you at least provide minimum checks on arrogant power?"
He went on, "Right now, I earnestly appeal for you to issue a warning at the ballot box against the Democratic Party of Korea's runaway," warning, "If you do not issue a warning, the Lee Jae-myung administration will ram through a special counsel to cancel indictments, Jung Chung-rae's Democratic Party will monopolize National Assembly standing committees and continue parliamentary dictatorship, and the Supreme Court will be completely seized by this administration the moment Chief Justice Jo Hee-de's term ends in June next year."
He said, "Fellow citizens, have you found it easier to make a living over the past year? While the ruling party is firing celebratory shots for KOSPI 7,000 and 8,000 and popping champagne, how are your wallets doing?" adding, "Representative Jung Chung-rae cheerfully said, 'If you feel pleased when you look at your stock account, please vote for the Democratic Party.' If you sigh when you look at your thinned pockets and the heavy burden of prices and interest, please vote for the People Power Party."
He continued, "Once the election is over, a bill titled a tax bomb on the livelihood economy is set to arrive," adding, "Various tax hikes and interest rate increases are foretold, and even a Minister is personally stoking the fire by talking about expropriating corporations' excess profits for redistribution. Fellow citizens, you must block the livelihood bomb and economic bomb with your vote."
Citing controversies surrounding ruling party candidates one by one, the floor leader stressed, "Please oust the incompetent scarecrows who avoid debates and focus only on riding the president's coattails, and choose capable and prepared People Power Party workers who will represent only local residents," adding, "That is the only way to bring down the nose of the Democratic Party, which is arrogantly and completely disregarding the people."
The floor leader referred to a recent incident at an early voting station in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, where National Election Commission staff stopped an ordinary citizen from going back into the booth after coming out, saying, "I think that is the normal work attitude of the commission," and pointed to the controversy over President Lee Jae-myung's early voting ballot paper.
He also signaled that after the election he will push the so-called "Park Chan-dae fraud prevention three bills" related to the controversy over Democratic Party candidate Park Chan-dae allegedly posing as the maternal grandson of an "independence patriot relative 22 steps removed," and, regarding Seoul mayoral candidate Chong Won-o, he will pursue a "Chong Won-o prevention law" to require holding at least three debates for provincial governor and mayor candidates.
