The Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL) said it immediately formed central and regional industrial accident response headquarters in connection with the explosion that occurred on the morning of the 1st at the Hanwha Aerospace weapons manufacturing plant in Yuseong District, Daejeon.
In a press reference the same day, the ministry said, "Minister Kim Young-hoon urgently dispatched Occupational Safety and Health Office head Ryu Hyun-cheol to the scene in connection with the accident and ordered a swift response."
The Minister said that immediately after the accident, the Daejeon Regional Employment and Labor Office chief and labor inspectors were sent to the site and ordered a work stoppage. The Minister said, "We will respond swiftly and sternly to manage the accident and prevent secondary accidents."
Meanwhile, according to the fire authorities, five people have died and two have been injured so far in the accident.
