With the BTS world tour set to take place in Busan on the 12th and 13th, the public and private sectors will jointly inspect hotels and guesthouses for price gouging.
The Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) said on the 1st that it will carry out a joint campaign to improve tourism readiness on the 8th in the Seomyeon area of Busan, together with the Busan Metropolitan Government, Busanjin District, and the Busan Tourism Association.
An agency official said the campaign was prepared to respond to the recent price-gouging issue in the Busan area and to establish fair pricing.
Since January, the agency has shared tourism complaint data with the Busan Metropolitan Government and has reviewed related conditions. It plans to strengthen cooperation with relevant ministries and related organizations to prevent a recurrence of unfair practices such as accommodation price gouging and unilateral reservation cancellations. If necessary, it will also seek cooperation with investigative authorities.
Min Byeong-seon, head of the Tourism Industry Headquarters at the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO), said, "The BTS world tour is a global event that focuses the world's attention on Busan," adding, "Fair prices and friendly service are key elements that determine Busan's brand value and the competitiveness of Korean tourism."
