Independent Jeonbuk State governor candidate Kim Kwan-young appeared on MBC's "Kim Jong-bae's Focus" on the morning of the 1st and said, "Jeonbuk's future must be decided on its own."
Kim said, "I heard a lot from supporters that they would go to the polls because candidate Kim Kwan-young is running as an independent," adding, "The governor must be chosen by the residents themselves."
As for why he is receiving support from Jeonbuk residents despite running as an independent, he said, "Residents were angered that Kim Kwan-young and Lee Won-taek's handling of affairs was judged by excessively different standards," adding, "There is also a strong perception that carrying forward and bringing to fruition Jeonbuk's provincial administration over the past four years benefits the entire province."
Regarding the past controversy over giving cash to young people, he said, "I usually carry about 1 million won in cash in my bag for congratulations and condolences," adding, "I paid proxy driver fees so young people wouldn't drive drunk, but after they sobered up and I realized the problem, I retrieved a considerable portion."
Regarding party leader Jung Chung-rae's remark that "if Jeonbuk collapses, President Lee Jae-myung is in danger," he said, "If Kim Kwan-young becomes governor, the Lee Jae-myung administration will become stronger," adding, "It is an absurd claim meant to divide sides during election season and to tighten the ranks of Democratic Party people."
On the evaluation of the past four years of provincial administration, he said, "We attracted a total of 27 trillion won in investments, including 9 trillion won from Hyundai Motor Group, and, beating Seoul, were selected as a candidate city for the 2036 Summer Olympics," adding, "It was a time when Jeonbuk regained confidence that it can do it."
Finally, regarding the remark, "If elected, I will apply for readmission in September," he said, "If I am elected, party leader Jung Chung-rae should step down," adding, "Because there is a party convention in August, I plan to work so that the leadership changes at the convention and then apply for readmission."
