Chong Won-o, the Democratic Party of Korea candidate for Seoul mayor, on the last Sunday before the election, the 31st, moved to win over baseball fans. While pledging to turn Jamsil Baseball Stadium into a proper domed stadium, he stressed that the housing crunch in Seoul is the responsibility of People Power Party candidate Oh Se-hoon.
At a 12:30 p.m. rally on the 31st at Gocheok Sky Dome in Guro District, Seoul, Chong said, "There have been calls to make Jamsil Baseball Stadium a domed stadium, and if we do, to do it right." That day at Gocheok Dome, the Kiwoom Heroes faced the KT Wiz.
He went on, "Gocheok Dome is facing various problems, and if I become mayor of Seoul, I will make Jamsil Baseball Stadium a world-class domed stadium," adding, "I will make Jamsil Baseball Stadium a premier venue and steer it in the right direction."
After wrapping up the baseball pledge, Chong immediately brought up the Seoul housing crunch. He said, "The current cause of Seoul's housing crunch is Mayor Oh Se-hoon. If Mayor Oh had just kept his promises, there would be no housing problem now," adding, "He failed to keep the promise he made when he ran, to supply 360,000 homes within five years."
He added, "The bigger problem is irresponsibility. When I asked why he couldn't keep his promise, he said it was because of the previous mayor and the president," and asked, "What should we do about a mayor who is incompetent and blames others, with no sense of responsibility? Whom should we replace with?"
Regarding People Power Party candidate Oh Se-hoon's criticism to the effect that "Chong is President Lee Jae-myung's puppet," Chong demanded that he withdraw the remark.
After the rally, Chong told reporters, "Even during Mayor Park Won-soon's tenure, I spoke hard truths for residents' interests, and I have experience doing anything for residents' interests," adding, "By contrast, Oh said nothing even during Yoon Suk-yeol's tyranny."
