People Power Party Seoul mayoral candidate Oh Se-hoon said that if elected, he would attend a Cabinet meeting to personally explain to the president and push through Seoul residents' "five commands." He also criticized Democratic Party of Korea candidate Chong Won-o, saying he would be able to act only as a mere "quasi-appointee" scarecrow of President Lee Jae-myung.
On the morning of the 31st at his campaign headquarters, Oh held a press briefing and said, "An election that will protect the lives of Seoul residents and determine the future is three days away," adding, "If residents choose me again, I will attend a Cabinet meeting immediately after taking office and carry out the solemn command."
He added, "At the Cabinet meeting held immediately after the start of the 9th popularly elected term, I will explain the five commands of the residents to the president," stressing that the Seoul mayor can attend Cabinet meetings.
The five commands Oh mentions are "3 real estate, 2 livelihood," consisting of three real estate policies and two related to livelihood and the economy: normalizing conditions for redevelopment and reconstruction maintenance projects; boosting the supply of private rental housing; preparing safeguards to prevent a real estate tax bomb; and easing regulations in the capital region; blocking dismissal-of-indictment provisions.
Aiming at Chong, he said, "A Seoul mayor from the Democratic Party could become a presence-less scarecrow who cannot even properly mention the residents' five commands," adding, "Only I, Oh Se-hoon, can speak, persuade, and change things."
Regarding the possibility of facing counterchecks when attending a Cabinet meeting, Oh said, "The Seoul mayor is elected by 10 million residents, so the weight is different from an appointed position," adding, "Right after the election, it will not be easy for the president to simply ignore a voice conveying the residents' will."
