The People Power Party filed a complaint accusing Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker Lee Hae-sik of violating the Public Official Election Act after Lee disclosed on Facebook, a social network service (SNS), the name of the candidate marked on his ballot.
On the 31st, the People Power Party's Central Election Management Committee Clean Election Headquarters said in a press notice, "After completing early voting, Lee disclosed via his SNS the voting choices he marked on his ballot. We submitted a complaint to the Gangdong Police Station in Seoul on suspicion of violating the secrecy-of-the-ballot provision under the Public Official Election Act."
Earlier, Lee posted on his SNS a certified photo showing he voted early at the Cheonho 3-dong community center, along with a caption saying he "voted straight for No. 1," and listed the names of the candidates he voted for, including district councilor, superintendent of education, Seoul mayor, and Gangdong district mayor.
The People Power Party Clean Election Headquarters said this "violates Article 167 of the Public Official Election Act," adding, "Such conduct by a public figure and sitting lawmaker with a large following can have the effect of inducing votes for specific candidates and parties, making the illegality even more serious."
