As of 4 p.m. on the second day of early voting, the 30th, the early voting rate for the 9th nationwide local elections reached 20.94%, setting a record high for local elections.
According to the National Election Commission, as of 4 p.m., 9,347,567 out of a total of 44,649,908 eligible voters had cast ballots, posting a turnout of 20.94%.
This figure is 0.32 percentage points higher than the final early voting rate of the 2022 8th local elections, the previous record high of 20.62%. Compared with the turnout at the same hour in the 8th local elections (18.39%), it is 2.55 percentage points higher.
At the current pace, the final early voting rate in this local election is expected to be around 23%.
Among elections held since the introduction of the early voting system, the election with the highest early voting rate was the 20th presidential election, with a final early voting rate of 36.93%.
So far in this election, the region with the highest turnout is South Jeolla (35.89%), followed by North Jeolla (31.96%), Gwangju (24.82%), and Gangwon (24.62%).
By contrast, Daegu was the lowest at 16.53%, followed by Gyeonggi (18.49%), Busan (18.98%), and Incheon (19.15%). Seoul's turnout was tallied at 20.87%.
Early voting, which began at 6 a.m. on the 29th, runs until 6 p.m. today. Voters can cast ballots at any early voting station nationwide with a photo ID.
