As of 2 p.m. on the second day of early voting on the 30th for the 9th nationwide local elections and National Assembly by-elections, the nationwide average turnout was tallied at 18.61%.
According to the National Election Commission, as of 2 p.m., 8,308,933 out of a total of 44,649,908 eligible voters had cast ballots.
This is 2.24 percentage points higher than the early voting rate (16.37%) at the same time during the 2022 8th local elections. Following the record-high first-day early voting rate among past local elections the day before, the strong participation trend continued on the second day.
By region, South Jeolla recorded the highest turnout at 32.69%. It was followed by North Jeolla at 28.97%, Gangwon at 22.21%, and Gwangju at 22.10%.
Daegu, meanwhile, was the lowest in the country at 14.68%. Gyeonggi (16.30%), Busan (16.87%), and Incheon (16.89%) also showed relatively low turnout. Seoul came in at 18.38%, similar to the national average.
Early voting runs until 6 p.m. today at 3,571 early voting stations nationwide. Voters who bring a photo ID, such as a resident registration card, driver's license, or passport, can vote at any early voting station nationwide regardless of their registered address.
In areas where National Assembly by-elections are held concurrently, voters will receive one more ballot than in areas with only local elections.
