On the 30th, the last weekend before the June 3 local elections, the Seoul mayoral candidates from the ruling and opposition parties went all out to win votes.
Oh Se-hoon, the People Power Party candidate for Seoul mayor, began his campaign speech that morning at Bulgwangcheon in Eunpyeong District, stopped by Gayang Market in Gangseo District and Bangsin Market, then continued to the Yeouido Hangang bus pier.
In the afternoon, he campaigned at Hyundai Department Store in Mok-dong, Yangcheon District; Gocheok IPARK Mall in Guro District; Hyundai Market in Geumcheon District; Huam Market in Yongsan District; and Bangbae Station in Seocho District. It was a grueling schedule covering eight districts in a single day. Oh declared that starting that day and through the end of the campaign period on the 2nd of next month, he would conduct an "88-hour unlimited accountability campaign."
At the back gate of Hyundai Department Store in Mok-dong, Oh said, "The redevelopment of Mok-dong's 14 apartment complexes has really been racing ahead. Do you feel that because I paid special attention to Mok-dong, progress has been fast?" and added, "When work is underway and it is interrupted midway, problems arise. If you grab the bridle of a running horse and suddenly try to change its direction, the horse will fall."
Oh also criticized candidate Chong Won-o's trip to Cancun. Oh said, "They go on a 10-night, 11-day overseas business trip and slip in a resort city in Mexico in the middle. I won't talk about the female staffer issue. Only two people went," and added, "In the Seoul city government, for a trip like that, everything is disclosed by the hour. Has candidate Chong disclosed even a single item of schedule for those three days and two nights?"
Oh said, "There is no election next year. Even if President Lee Jae-myung runs amok like a runaway train without brakes and acts as arrogant as can be, there is no mechanism to keep him in check," adding, "This election will be the final warning."
Democratic Party candidate Chong Won-o began the day's campaigning with morning greetings at the entrance to Gwanaksan Mountain in Gwanak District. He then visited Boramae Park in Dongjak District, Seoul Forest in Seongdong District, Jayang Traditional Market in Gwangjin District, Taereung Market in Jungnang District, Gyeongchun Line Forest Trail in Nowon District, Dream Forest in Northern Seoul in Gangbuk District, Chang-dong Station in Dobong District, and Cheongnyangni Station in Dongdaemun District.
Chong also mounted a grueling schedule that day, traversing Seoul from south to north and covering nine districts.
Taking the microphone at Chang-dong Station that afternoon, Chong said, "Many people who watched the TV debate say that Oh is incompetent and irresponsible," and criticized, "Housing problems are severe, but when asked about the housing crunch, he blames the previous mayor. If he is going to blame the previous mayor, why is he running again?"
Raising the issue of the missing rebar at Samseong Station, Chong said, "The Sampoong Department Store collapse occurred because rebar was installed at half-length. When I asked Oh whether the missing rebar at Samseong Station constitutes serious shoddy construction, he would not answer," and added, "It is because he does not want to take responsibility. An irresponsible mayor cannot be forgiven."
Chong emphasized, "I will build a Seoul that joins hands with President Lee Jae-myung, and a Dobong District that joins hands with the Seoul city government."
