Former President Park Geun-hye on the 28th appealed for support for gubernatorial candidate Kim Jin-tae at a campaign rally in support of Gangwon, calling it "a place where I can feel a special affection."
At about 11:56 a.m. that day, the former president arrived at Wonju Jungang Market and held a street campaign for about 15 minutes, walking with candidate Kim and lawmakers Lee Cheol-gyu, Park Jeong-ha, and Lee Yang-soo. Crowds gathered at the market chanted the former president's name and asked to shake hands.
The former president said, "I visited this Wonju Jungang Market in 2012," adding, "But coming back like this after as many as 14 years, I feel truly moved." She went on to say, "I want to express my sincere gratitude as so many citizens of Wonju have come out to warmly welcome me."
The former president also emphasized her connection to Gangwon Province by citing the service record in Yanggu, Gangwon, of her late father, former President Park Chung-hee. Park said, "Also, because my father served in the military in Yanggu, I can feel a special affection."
She continued, "Candidate Kim is someone I have known for a long time. A person who works responsibly, diligently, and well," adding, "If Gangwon Province is to continue to develop going forward, it absolutely needs someone like candidate Kim. I hope the citizens of Wonju will please give a lot of support."
After finishing the rally at Wonju Jungang Market, the former president immediately moved to Hoengseong, the next stop on the schedule, and continued the support rally for candidate Kim.
