The June 3 local election Seoul mayoral candidates' TV debate began late on the night of the 28th. From the opening remarks, the candidates criticized their opponents and appealed for support for themselves.
People Power Party candidate Oh Se-hoon said, "Over the past five years, I have done everything I can to normalize Seoul," adding, "Design Seoul and the Hangang Renaissance created pride and breathing room in urban spaces. Eco-friendly CNG buses and subway station screen doors were innovations that dramatically improved fine dust reduction and safety."
Oh said, "Now, based on credible rating agencies, a city ranked No. 3 in the world for quality of life and urban competitiveness is within reach," adding, "I want to complete it decisively and by a wide margin."
He then emphasized, regarding the recent collapse accident on the Seosomun overpass, "I will establish stricter safety standards and management systems so that this does not happen again," adding, "I will definitely complete a special city of quality of life that is warmer and healthier, grounded in safety."
Democratic Party of Korea candidate Chong Won-o said, "Please replace the leadership with me, Chong Won-o, who will firmly and safely support the lives of Seoul citizens," adding, "Judge Oh Se-hoon's 10 years of incompetence."
Chong said, "The Seoul mayor must, together with more than 10,000 civil servants, firmly support the safety and lives of 9.3 million Seoul citizens," adding, "However, the Seoul mayor has so far been consistent with showy, performative administration."
Justice Party candidate Kwon Young-guk criticized Oh by pointing to the missing rebar issue at GTX-A Samseong Station. Kwon said, "If they knew and condoned it, that is a crime, and if they truly did not know, that is a serious problem," adding, "Either way, there is no qualification to be Seoul mayor. Four terms are enough. Stop now."
Reform Party candidate Kim Jeong-cheol said, "I was born in Yeosu, came up to Seoul at age 4, and moved 21 times across nine districts," adding, "I will show in politics as well that even without connections or money, you can succeed if you work hard."
