A poll released on the 28th showed that support for Seoul mayoral candidates Chong Won-o of the Democratic Party of Korea and Oh Se-hoon of the People Power Party was tied at 39% each. With early voting for the June 3 local elections a day away, the race is neck and neck.
In a Seoul mayoral approval survey commissioned by The Munhwa Ilbo Company to Embrain Public and conducted on the 26th–27th among 805 men and women aged 18 and older living in Seoul, Chong and Oh each recorded 39%.
To the question, "Regardless of your own support, which candidate do you think is more likely to win?" Chong was at 44% and Oh at 36%. The gap between the two is 8 percentage points.
Asked about the significance of this local election, 43% cited supporting the administration and 40% cited checking the administration.
This survey was conducted on the 26th–27th among 805 men and women aged 18 and older living in Seoul through telephone interviews (100% mobile virtual numbers). The response rate was 14.0%, and the margin of sampling error was ±3.5 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. Meanwhile, Chong and Oh will hold their first debate at 11 p.m. the same day. The debate, organized by the National Election Commission, will include four participants invited by the commission: Chong and Oh among the seven Seoul mayoral candidates, as well as Kim Jung-chul of the Reform Party and Kwon Young-guk of the Justice Party.
