Cho Seung-rae, secretary-general of the Democratic Party of Korea, sharpened his criticism of People Power Party senior supreme council member Shin Dong-wook's call to reevaluate the impeachment of former President Park Geun-hye, saying it was a call to go "from Yoon-again to Park-again." At the same time, he criticized Kim Kwan-young, an independent candidate for North Jeolla governor, saying it was an attempt "to drag in the president to create a pretext for running" and that Kim should be held responsible.
On the 27th, Cho met with reporters at the National Assembly and, regarding remarks from some in the People Power Party that the impeachment of former President Park Geun-hye should be reevaluated, said, "It seems to be a call to go from 'Yoon-again' to 'Park-again,'" adding, "The claim that the impeachment of President Park should be reassessed appears to suggest it was unjust, but the Constitutional Court has already ruled, and the Supreme Court has finalized the sentence."
Cho said, "I cannot understand the idea that (through President Park) the conservatives will rally," adding, "Common-sense conservatives and rational conservatives will instead drift away."
He added, "How can you reinterpret an issue that is already settled historically, politically, and legally? I think people keep seeing a lack of sincerity in the People Power Party because it keeps trying to turn things back."
Cho also went on the offensive over the controversy surrounding Kim Kwan-young, an independent running for North Jeolla governor. He said, "At first, Kim answered in a way that made it seem he had received the president's approval and was running as an independent, and related content was reported," adding, "Afterward, reports rebutting that came out, and the president's side also made it clear there had not even been a phone call."
He continued, "If so, did Kim lie, or was it an enormous exaggeration? Since the attempt to use even the president as a pretext for his independent run is highly problematic, Kim Kwan-young should take responsibility for it."
He also said toward Kim, "The reason for falsely speaking as if he had received the president's approval was to create a frame that he is close to the president and that it looks as if the party is driving him out."
Cho also addressed polls showing Kim far ahead, noting that public sentiment differed from polling at the time of President Yoon Suk-yeol's impeachment in the past, and said, "When we look back at whether these are normal polls, I do not think so," adding, "This does not mean the current results are abnormal, but we need to note that the variance is large."
