The rival parties waged a "proxy war for the Seoul mayoral election" at the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee over the omission of rebar at Samsung Station on the Metropolitan Express Railway (GTX)-A line. The Democratic Party of Korea held People Power Party Seoul mayoral candidate Oh Se-hoon responsible for the incident, while the People Power Party countered that the ruling party was spreading false information.
The Public Administration and Security Committee held a full meeting at the National Assembly on the morning of the 26th and conducted urgent questioning on the issue related to the GTX rebar omission. Earlier, on the 18th, the committee also met and clashed over the GTX rebar omission.
Seo Beom-su of the People Power Party, the opposition party's secretary on the committee, said, "The Democratic Party unilaterally convened the standing committee and unilaterally adopted witnesses," and added, "Democratic Party Seoul mayoral candidate Chong Won-o's misconduct is coming out in droves. On the Cancun trip, the 'Agissiguddang,' and the glorification of habitual violence, if confident, appear in person and clarify the facts."
Youn Kun-young of the Democratic Party, the ruling party's secretary, countered, "The reason for convening the committee is for busy people to gather and put their heads together to check the safety of 10 million Seoul citizens," and said, "We are trying to talk about safety, but the People Power Party's behavior of requesting references and witnesses because they cannot get hold of the ruling party candidate is the real problem."
Ko Min-jung of the same party said, "The reason for the committee's urgent questioning is the staffing of the Board of Audit and Inspection and the GTX rebar omission," and added, "Candidate Oh, the person with ultimate responsibility for these issues, must appear and answer."
Cho Eun-hee of the People Power Party said, "The Seoul city government recognized the rebar omission and reported the situation six times, yet candidate Chong blatantly spread the falsehood that candidate Oh concealed it for six months," and added, "Candidate Chong must answer for this."
