Minister Kim Young-hoon of the Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL) on the 26th ordered a swift response to the collapse at the Seosomun overpass demolition site in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, where three people died.
At 2:31 p.m. that day, part of the deck collapsed at the Seosomun overpass demolition site, killing one man in his 60s and two men in their 50s. A total of three people—a person in their 30s, one in their 40s, and one in their 50s—were reported to have injuries to the back and head.
In response, the ministry formed the Central Industrial Accident Response Headquarters at its headquarters and the Regional Industrial Accident Response Headquarters at the Seoul Western District Office. Immediately after the accident, the head of the Seoul Regional Office of Employment and Labor, the head of the Seoul Western District Office, and labor inspectors were dispatched to the site and halted work.
The Minister ordered a thorough probe into the structural causes of the accident and strict oversight.
